Elections 2024

Nominations for CSU President, VP Education, and Student Council are now open! Read on to learn about the elections and how to get involved.

What’s happening?
Chester Students’ Union (CSU) is an organisation that exists to represent and further the interests of students at the University of Chester. CSU is led by students just like you, chosen through an election by the student body.

This election period is to elect a new CSU President, Vice President Education, and Student Council Officers. CSU President and VP Education are both full time salaried roles, whereas Student Council positions are part time and voluntary.

Full Time Officers

The full-time officer team focus on improving the lives of students on everything from academic experience to student accommodation. If elected, you will take up post from 01 July 2024 until 30 June 2025 and will be paid a full-time salary (currently £21,828, pending pay increase 1st August 2024).  Most full-time officers are final year students and take on the role after their degree has finished, however we have in the past had some second-year students who take a sabbatical break from their studies for one year.

Part Time Officers

If elected, you will take up post from 01 July 2024 until 30 June 2025. As a Student Council Officer, you will represent your peers as your Unions highest student decision making body.  You will attend Student Council five times per year where your ideas and motions are discussed, debated and voted on and in turn this helps to lead the direction of the Union and your full time Elected Officers. Student Council has three clear functions:

  1. Scrutinising and supporting your full-time elected officers in achieving the change set out in their manifestos.
  2. Establishing policy that enables the student voice to be clearly heard.
  3. Setting and supporting the campaign priorities for CSU.

Next steps

  1. If you’d like to have a conversation about running or have any questions, you can contact csuelections@chester.ac.uk.
  2. Decide which position you want to run for.
  3. To run, you need to nominate yourself first – this simply means putting yourself forward officially as a candidate. You can do this by logging in to the Chester SU website>Name>Account/Profile> and clicking My Nominations. You’ll need to put yourself forward before nominations close.
  4. Anyone who has nominated themselves will be invited to a briefing where you will be given advice, guidance and instructions about the forthcoming election.
  5. Once campaigning starts and during voting week your goal is simple – to get as many students as possible to vote for you. You will do this by sharing your manifesto, having conversations to see what they care about and how you can help them, and creating excitement about your candidacy for office.
