Student radio to be broadcast in student community spaces

This idea was approved by Student Council, however it was noted that the radio only currently is live for a few hours a week, and this is during the evening. The suggestion is that CSU can reach out to departments at the University and see if any students would like to take up the radio station again for the coming academic year.
Did you even know that there is a student radio station? Most students don’t, and it’s a great shame, as radio students and guest presenters are producing music and other shows which are not being heard. Since the Media dept cut the budget, there is no FM broadcast and it has to be looked for on the website.
I propose that when the SU go ahead with speakers in the building, this would give them something to play without needing to turn to other providers, potentially saving money.
In addition I feel that the university cafes and dining rooms are missing a trick by paying for licences for an external company to provide their in-restaurant music. I propose that the university should consider playing The Cat Radio in these spaces instead.
I aim to enhance the student experience by substituting the mindless pap currently played in university dining areas with radio provided by and for the student community. I also aim to increase the reach of this under-appreciated service.
