SUMMARY OF 2017/18

Men

With the success of gaining promotion in 2016-17. We knew 2017-18 was going to be a tough year. After losing several key members through graduation it was a matter of rebuilding the team around a few core members. This year was however successful as we remained in division 2A finishing 3rd winning the majority of matches and two positions of promotion to division 1A. The men’s team also recruited a local coach and continued good relationship with local volleyball teams including the Chester Titans and Chester country teams, with players competing in both and regional levels.

Women

This was a challenging year for the Women’s 1st team, losing several key members to graduation. The 2017-18 season saw a large group of fresher’s join the society, this alongside the recruiting of a local coach lead to the increased tactical awareness of the sport, successfully creating a young team which is likely to grow into a competitive team in division 3A for 2018-19.

Chester Volleyball also entered a mixed team into varsity against Salford, winning comfortably and contributing to the success of the University of Chester’s win overall.

CHARITY & COMMUNITY

The University of Chester Volleyball society successfully ran a bake sale, raising £93.53 for centre point.
We have engaged in the community mainly through our connection with the local volleyball sides. These include The Chester Titans and Amazons at regional level and the Chester team who play in the national league.

TRIUMPHS

  • Beat Salford in varsity

  • Continued to have club members play regionally for local teams across Chester

  • Created relationships with two local coaches, which created more focused and effective training sessions
