SUMMARY OF 2017/18
2017-18 has been one of our most successful years to date, we had an amazing turn out at taster sessions following Freshers’ Week and this resulted in a massive membership increase. Over the year we hosted and competed in a number of friendly tournaments with Salford University, Bangor University and Shrewsbury School. We also had teams at both BUCS and the Merseyside Open Fencing Tournament. Throughout the year we’ve also enjoyed many great socials from themed nights out in town, to meals and movie nights. We ended the year by hosting a tournament with two other universities and one of our own members won!
It’s been a fantastic year and we can’t wait for next year when we welcome old members back and meet all our new ones!
CHARITY & COMMUNITY
This year fencing has managed to raise a significant amount of money for charity this includes £266 for the RSPCA and one member (Lucy Barr) raised £4275 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. The club also participated in the SU Community Clean Up.
This year we’ve seen a 33% increase in membership and taken part in four friendly tournaments and two national competitions. We also won varsity against Salford with the final score being Chester: 24 Salford: -26.
PLANS FOR 2018/19
We are so excited for next year especially as we already have a friendly tournament planned with Shrewsbury School and are planning to participate in the Merseyside Open Fencing Tournament and BUCS. We also hope to raise £600 for the local charity Children Today.
