SUMMARY OF 2017/18

2017/18 was a very good year for the cycling society. After a good Fresher’s Fair we gained an increased number of members than the previous year, with a range of abilities included. We conducted well attended weekly club rides which catered for all ability of rider. The club had a very good year in the BUCS national championship competitions. Club members took part in the hill climb, track, road race and downhill mountain bike events, with the highlights including a bronze medal in the hill climb and a top-20 in the track.

CHARITY & COMMUNITY

This year we did not take part in any fundraising or community engagement, but we hope to next year.

TRIUMPHS

  • Gained mountain bike members for the first time.

  • Gained more members than the previous year.

  • Set up regular club rides.

  • Participated in four BUCS events.

  • Kieran won university sportsman of the year

PLANS FOR 2018/19

For 2018-19 we are going to carry on with the rides we have set up this year and we are also hoping to set up trips to the local mountain bike centre and Manchester velodrome.

In addition, we are aiming to have a least one person competing at each BUCS Cycling event next year, which is an exciting opportunity to represent the uni in a national competition.

We are also hoping to complete some sort of charity fund raiser in 2018-19.

Whether you compete or you just enjoy riding a bike, we have something planned for you!
