The Chester University Thespian Society or CUTS for short is in operation for its third year as an official society. That still makes us a baby society in comparison to other juggernauts of the society scene. So here I'm going to let you know a little about the society and what we do!
A Very Brief History
Graham Atkin formed the idea behind the society three years ago with the production of 'Twelfth Night' by William Shakespare. The next year the society officially formed with the first president appearing - Thomas Sarz. This was because at the time there was no performance based society that did not do musicals and not everyone wants to sing and dance. Taking the reigns from Graham, Thomas proceeded to put on a production of 'Macbeth' by William Shakespeare, which ended up raising just over £1000 for mind charity. Last year Natalie Webster became the second president for CUTS and with her came an entirely new event... This event was the Play in a Day, an exciting experience where writers and performers came together for a twenty four hour period to put on a set of original short plays. Then in the spring we put on a production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' by William Shakespeare. Under Natalie's presidency CUTS saw its most lucrative year raising £1425 over the two events for the Mind charity and the Easter production of Midsummer won Society Event of the Year.
As alluded to previously over our short existence as a society we have put on a total of three full fledged productions and one smaller event. Eagle-eyed readers will have noticed the trend of good old Shakespeare showing up, however, as a society we are not just the 'Shakespeare' society and this year we plan to move away from this circumstantial trend. We are also planning to bring back the Play in a Day event due to its success and the enjoyment members last year had with it.

These sessions will focus on confidence, technique and much more. This will all accumulate in the Play of the Day event. After Christmas we will run three two hour sessions on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 19:00 til 21:00 in Beswick 017. These sessions will be rehearsals preparing for the years chosen production, which will be revealed to all in the new year.
And that just about covers it all! We hope to see you all at our next session and look forward to having a fun and successful year!
