I came, I saw and I conferenced!
BUCS Conference 2017
Location: University of Hertfordshire
Date: 11/07/16 - 14/07/17
Let me just say BUCS know how to hold a conference! ???? Extremely inspiring keynote speakers, fantastic educational workshops, packed to the rafters with sports and activities with just a 'smidge' of socialising ??
The University of Hertfordshire and its enviable Sports Village served as a brilliant host for the range of activity SABBs and sports and society staff in attendance.
So here are my 3 highlights of #BUCSCONF17:
- Sports journalism workshop (James Toney - Sportsbeat) With the development of a Chester SU Media Society in early stages this workshop was just SENSATIONAL, the experience of James and his ability to easily explain how to apply media and journalism to Sports and societies at our SU will be the difference between a successful SUbMedia society and an unsuccessful one.
- Keynote speakers (Jamie Edwards - Trained Brain, Baroness Sue Campbell - Head of women's football @ the FA, Andy Grant - Royal Marines Commando) Listening to these truly awe inspiring speakers have motivated me to be the beto be as resourceful as possible by having conversations and not just a chat, educated me on how to get as many girls into sport as possible and made me realise how sport can actually be life changing, facing issues like Andy Grant's leg Amputation head on by being active and playing sport.
- Networking - Some of the best information I gathered was actually from finding out what other universities and SUs from around the country do. From having walking lectures to discovering how to start up student led Media Teams, the contacts I made at the conference will no doubt be invaluable for the year ahead.
