Usually the third term of the academic year at Chester Students’ Union is jam-packed with awards ceremonies and celebrations. We always look forward to celebrating with students and the wider University of Chester community and looking back at all the great things that happened over the course of the year.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic and government advice, we have had to cancel some events. In other cases, some events will still be going ahead and delivered virtually via our social media platforms. We still wish to celebrate where possible and safe to do so.  Full information of the changes to each event and how you can still be a part of them (from a distance, of course) are detailed below.

In the meantime, we want to thank you for your cooperation and patience during this time and look forward to celebrating with you all when it is safe to do so in the future.

Warrington Great Gatsby Ball – Original date: 23rd April

Unfortunately, this event has been cancelled. We hope to celebrate with Warrington in the future!

Societies Awards – Original date: 29th April

Our Society Awards will be delivered online this year via our Twitter feed, @ChesterSU

The evening will be very similar to how the event was due to run at the Queen’s Hotel, Chester. The awards will be a celebration of our wonderful societies including a presentation of awards, club colours and speeches from your Vice President Activities and CSU President. We hope you can join us to enjoy the evening from the comfort of your own home!

A date is TBC for when these will be delivered.

Shrewsbury End of Year Party – Original date: 29th May

Unfortunately, this event, originally intended to be held at the Havana Republic, has been cancelled. Please keep your eyes peeled for future updates about online delivery via @ShrewsburySU Facebook.

Alumni Weekend – Original date: 2nd May (Warrington) & 16th May (Chester)

Unfortunately, both Chester and Warrington Alumni Weekends have been cancelled. We appreciate this is disappointing as its one of only a few opportunities members from the University of Chester community (past and present) have in the year to come together to celebrate and share their experiences.

Keep an eye out on our social media where we share photos from times past alongside the Alumni Department. We look forward to Alumni weekend making a return in 2021.

HoME Awards – Original date: 4th June

The Union will not be hosting the HoME awards this year. They will make a return for the 2020/21 academic year.  While this is disappointing, we want to primarily support students who have housing or other advice queries during this time.

We want to thank all the housing providers for their efforts this year and have received positive student feedback from the sector throughout the course of the year.

1839 Awards – Original date: 5th June

The 1839 awards are being delivered online at 18:39 on the 5th June 2020 via our Twitter feed, @ChesterSU.

The event will be run as though attendees were sat in the Storyhouse Theatre, so grab your drinks, sit back and enjoy! We will be sharing videos from Melanie Hooper (VP Education) and the wider Elected Officer team to celebrate the dedication and hard work of staff & students throughout the course of the year.

Cirque Du Soirée – Original date: 12th June

Unfortunately, Cirque Du Soirée, which was due to take place on 12th June at Doubletree Hilton, Chester, has been cancelled. If you’ve bought a ticket already, please note we have issued refunds for all ticketholders. We would appreciate your patience while these refunds are processed by PayPal. If you haven’t received the returned funds by 27th April please email csumarketing@chester.ac.uk. We hope to party with you in the future!
