About Our Group

University of Chester First Aid Society (UoCFirstAid)

What is the society about?

We are a First Aid Society and Student Volunteering Unit for St John Ambulance, we teach first aid and give students the opportunity to put their new skills into practice through volunteering.

The society is the perfect place to pick up new skills, meet new like minded people. If our members choose to, they can become a volunteer with St John Ambulance (SJA). This would enable them to volunteer their time at a huge variety of events. There are also lots of opportunities to enhance your CV by improving your teamwork, communication, and leadership skills. For example, you could get involved with fundraising, youth work, and training other students. It’s a great way to gain hands-on experience and serve your local communities.

Our values are:

  • To save lives through essential first aid training and campaigning
  • To promote continual learning, professional development and effective teamworking
  • To treat others with compassion and respect
  • We believe in the power of communities to improve the health of the nation

Key Information (When, Where and How Often We Meet)

Our sessions are held on Wednesdays at 6pm over Microsoft Teams, they usually last about an hour. We cover everything first aid, from minor injuries to emergency first aid and CPR. At our sessions, we teach important first aid skills and give our members the opportunity to practice them in a safe and stress-free environment.

We are also a part of St John Ambulance - this means that if our members want to, they can take their skills further and volunteer their time to treat people at events across the North.

Events and activities, we are organising this year (subject to social distancing):

Restart a Heart Day – October 16th 2020 (teaching CPR to the community)

First Aider Awards Evening – 2021

Charity 10k/5k – 2021

Event First Aid Volunteering – Throughout the academic year

Why Should You Join Us?

The University of Chester First Aid Society is a fun and sociable group of students, interested in learning first aid and volunteering. Our meetings are not only an easy way to meet and get to know fellow students, but also with students from other First Aid Societies across the North.

We’re always welcoming new members and if you’d like to learn something, let the committee know and we will try to organise it! There are also committee roles open and we’d encourage new members to get involved.
