This year CSU took part in the SU’s Green Impact Award for the first time in over five years. Led by the Democracy and Insight team, and supported by Elected Officers, we filled in a workbook over the academic year to show where we have been making changes to becoming a more sustainable CSU. This encouraged to create changes in training offered, introducing a Sustainability Representative to Student Council and bidding for funding for a Rewilding Project on campus (unfortunately we were unsuccessful but have since seen the Grounds and Gardens team begin rewilding some areas of Exton Park!).

The workbook was audited by one of SOS’s team, and an audit call was arranged for SOS to meet with Eleanor and our Chief Exec. Following a rigorous auditing process, we are pleased to say we have been awarded ‘Good’. This is a great way to jump back into working towards our sustainability at CSU, and our next challenge is to reach ‘very good’, if not ‘excellent’ over the next couple of years, to support the aims of our new strategic plan.

We scored highly in areas surrounding ‘policy and partnership’, following our ever-strengthening relationship with the University’s Sustainability Unit, as well as the Go Green Festival that we supported the Sustainability Unit with over the past two years. There are also clear areas for us to improve on, most notably being to further embed sustainability into our processes and expanding on our policy and campaigning on the subject.

We look forward to working with the new Sustainability Representative, to drive our sustainability agenda led by students.
