Volleyball is a popular competitive six-a-side sport whereby players aim to ground the ball in the opponent’s half of the court. It originated in the United States in 1895 as a blend of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball. The spiking, passing, blocking, and setting of volleyballs make this sport overwhelmingly exciting.

This sport welcomes everyone of all abilities, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned performer. Our current members are very friendly and approachable and will deliver fun sessions specifically for beginners. For more experienced players, the university has strong links with local clubs.

The Volleyball committee is eager to host both social (Wednesday’s) and charity events for all members in which everyone will be able to engage more with the sport, the community, and the University.

Our volleyball society had an amazing 2016/17 season:
  • Both the guys and girls had great cup runs, reaching the semi- finals and quarter-finals, respectively.
  • The women’s team finished 2nd in the Merseyside Volleyball League (MVL) and 4th in the BUCS league. They had a superlative finish to the season, leaving a relatively strong squad for this upcoming year.
  • The men’s team won the BUCS league, securing promotion to the 2nd division in the North West, all by dropping only 1 set in the process! But for the 2017/18 season, the men’s team will be in a rebuilding process and that’s why we need your support to help maintain the team’s achievements.
In 2017/18, our aim is to increase the number of members we have and to recreate or even surpass the success that they have achieved!

It is not only about volleyball! Joining the club will give you a great experience, from volleyball training and matches to social events.  You will definitely make new friends and share our passion for this incredible sport.  Our club is also aimed at students who want to improve their general health, fitness, and mental awareness.

After you’ve signed up, please make sure you wear comfortable clothing, and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated.  We’ll see you there!
