STEMs (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Society)
we strive to provide career making networking events and contacts for your courses, guest speakers for your interests and fantastic social events for your downtime.
We organise and participate in many events throughout the year such as Frank Morton Sports Day, Games Jam and many more! STEMs is a great way to meet new people in different years and is a helping hand throughout your time at Chester, with countless memorable experiences along the way! So if you are interested in all things STEM then come and join us!
In 2016/17 we successfully integrated the department of computer science into STEMs, they held a large cyber security conference towards the end of the year and are planning to build on this next year, with their aims as follows:
Champion Women in STEMs and commit more to STEMs Ambassadors
Build more participation across the whole of STEMs at the UoC
Build inter-university society relations
From the engineering perspective, in 2016/17 we achieved our goals of putting on many more talks from industry and also widening attendance and increasing collaboration with other professional engineering institutions. One of our talks on 3D printing at BAE attracted over 150 people from 4 different institutions. We aim to further this progress further in 2017/18, we also aim to:
Focus massively on charity work with many large events throughout the year.
Engage new students coming to UoC, helping them through the move to university.
Run an event every Tuesday for society members.
Step-up social media presence. For students who study a STEM subject at the University of Chester, joining STEMs provides you with extra skills, knowledge and contacts to help propel your career after you leave. For all students, we provide new experiences and help them through their time at university.
