Are you a Labour member or supporter?
Did you feel enthused by the positive change Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party were offering at the recent general election?
Perhaps you are passionate about politics and want to help build a more equal Britain?
If so, then this is the society for you to join and get involved with. Anyone is welcome!

We meet once a week on Wednesday evenings to mingle and get involved with various activities together. Our aim is to make these meetings fun, diverse and interesting, doing things such as: hosting and talking to prominent guest speakers; attending local party meetings and functions; "politics in the pub" nights; having internal debates; going out on socials (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic); quiz nights; and much more!

2016/17 taught us that it has never been more exciting to be a member of the University of Chester Labour Society. With membership sky-rocketing and opportunities widening; our society has had one of its busiest and most successful years to date. Our society played a vital role for the City of Chester Labour campaign at the 2017 general election, which resulted in us successfully securing the re-election of our local Labour MP Chris Matheson, increasing our majority from a tiny 93 votes, to 9,176 against all the odds. Chester Labour Party is a campaign machine our members are honoured to be a part of. During the campaign, our members had the opportunity to meet and talk to celebrities like Steve Coogan, as well as high-profile Labour politicians like Tom Watson, Kier Starmer and the Mayor of Liverpool Steve Rotheram. Further to this, we also organised big social events like: laser quest; a boat party; a Christmas meal; quiz nights; and politically-themed fancy dress nights!

Building on the sensational year we have just had, we aim to make 2017/18 even better! The society already has big guest speakers lined up for the autumn such as: former leader Ed Milliband MP; Angela Eagle MP; our local MP Chris Matheson; local councillors and many more! We are also planning on arranging a number of social events and nights out such as: paintballing; crazy golf; fancy-dress nights etc. It is our hope that we can further increase our membership to give people these opportunities and give us a meaningful presence on campus.

Students who are passionate about politics and the Labour Party should join our society to experience unparalleled opportunities in politics, meet like-minded people and get involved in the party we are all proud to support.

Joining the University of Chester Labour Society will mean you will be able to get involved with our campaigns, attend our events and work with the local labour MP Chris Matheson. You will also experience the inner-workings of a political campaign, where you will be able to meet local party members and attend local CLP and branch meetings. Furthermore, you will also have the opportunity to meet and listen to guest speakers from the top of the Labour Party.

You should also join because it’s fun! Our saying within the society is "there aint no party like the Labour Party". We want to do what we are passionate about and have a laugh whilst doing it. You will therefore be able to mingle with fellow Labour supporters, make friends and go out on lots different socials where we will, out of duty, paint the town red! There is something for everyone! The Labour party is now the voice of students and the younger generation. Opportunities like the ones we have experienced in 2016/17 don't come along often. In 2017/18 there will be even more. Be here. Be part of it. Be passionate about it!
