Welcome to the Catholic Society page

Catholic or not, here's your chance to learn more about faith and be part of our community in a friendly environment. Our aim is to socialise, learn and pray under the guidance of Fr Paul at St Werburgh's Church. We also aim to create a space where students can grow spiritually and personally, be supported, express themselves through faith and find long lasting friends through our christian family. We regularly hold chilled out meetings on Sundays at 7-9pm at St Werburgh's Church after mass has ended. We also occasionally go on outings to Chester and Liverpool for walks and other events. Everyone is welcome, bring along some friends!
  • Times for Mass on Sundays are 9am, 10:45am or 6pm.
  • We also hold one on Mondays at 1:05pm at the University Chapel.
This year we have had quite a diverse group, including catholics, non catholics and even exchange students with whom we've shared many memories with. A few of our highlights for the year have been trips like Rome where we visited the Vatican amongst other sites - We even got to see the Pope! Apart from our trips abroad, we have been a little closer to home, visiting Liverpool, Shrewsbury and London (to an event called Flame) When we weren't travelling around, we enjoyed nights like shared table supper where we all joined together with food and wine, themed nights such as christmas quiz, pub quizzes, and occasional summer walks in and around Chester.
On the more religious side of the society, we have organised nights such as 'Prayer and Praise' and 'Chime' which included focusing on our own thoughts and prayers within the chapel and meetings with the nuns of Poor Clare's and a visit from the Bishop of the Shrewsbury diocese. Our fundraising included a sponsored walls walk and open mic night to donate money to CAFOD. Next year we plan to take trips and more! Possibly a trip to Rome again, or somewhere similar. We endeavour to include even more charity events and fundraising schemes and make ourselves a more well known society to the University of Chester. We hope that we carry on getting more members and creating a bigger family and this includes more social nights and events where everyone of any background and interests can get involved or even plan their own themed nights!
We welcome anyone to be a part of our community. It's a relaxed, open society where you can be supported and learn about faith within yourself and meet lots of new people.
