Swimming

Welcome to the homepage for the University of Chester Swimming Club.

Just keep swimming…

We are a dedicated and hard-working club with a passion for swimming. We train three times a week at the University Pool and once a month at the Stockport 50 meter pool and are coached by Mike Price, who provides excellent sets for swimmers of any ability. This year we will be competing in the Short and Long Course BUCS Championships and regular smaller galas. In addition to the training in the pool, we hold regular fundraising events, volunteering opportunities and socials for everyone to get involved in. Overall, we are a close and friendly team who greatly hope you will join us this year.

2015/2016 was a very successful year for our club, both in the pool and out. At the Short Course BUCS championships, for instance, we came within the top 40 universities throughout the country and one of our swimmers reached the Women’s Open 200 Individual Medley final, finishing 8th. Moreover, in fundraising last year we raised a total of £874.55 for charity. Just some of our fundraising events included a sponsored swim the channel, Christmas donations to Chester Homeless and the Neoteric Cup 2016 Charity gala in aid of SANDS. We also won the Community Involvement Award at Sports Presentation for our weekly volunteering with Chester Terrapins, a local disability swimming club.
As a club we are continually looking for ways to improve. This year, for example, we have organised a monthly Long Course training session at Stockport. This will not only give our swimmers the experience of a 50 meter pool but, in doing so, will also improve our performance at the Long Course BUCS Championships later in the year. Additionally, this year there is also the opportunity to get involved in regular land training and personal trainer sessions to improve your overall fitness and endurance, which will transfer to your performance in the pool. Furthermore, to reach this year’s fundraising target of £900, we have not only added a second fundraiser to our committee, but have already organised various events throughout the year. These range from basic fundraisers, such as local Bag Packs, to events for specific causes and events, such as Mental Health Awareness Week and World Children’s Day.

Swimming is a great form of all-round exercise. It not only holds physical benefits, including improved fitness, endurance, lung capacity and muscular flexibility, but it also also boosts endorphins in the body, improving overall feelings of health and wellbeing.
Our club is not only aimed at those who want to improve performance and race at regular galas and meets, but also at those who want to improve their general health and fitness, whilst meeting new people and enjoying fun and unique training sets.
