Welcome to the homepage for the LGBT+ Society of the University of Chester!
We’re a society that has long been dedicated to raising awareness of LGBT+ issues whilst providing a safe space for LGBT+ students to meet and make new friends. We have strong links with Chester’s LGBT+ community, and actively participate in Chester’s annual Pride event. This year we have so much planned for the society, and we hope you can join us on what is sure to be an action-packed year in the LGBT+ Society!
In 2015/16, we as a society took an active part in the annual Chester Pride parade. We also hosted an informative talk on HIV awareness and both how the disease can affect students, confronting the stigma around it and describing the progress achieved through researching a cure for it. We also managed to engage as a society through various social events, including a trip to Cheshire Oaks for bowling
What we aim to do in 2016/17: In the upcoming academic year, the society aims to continue to provide a welcoming and safe place for people who identify as LGBT+ to meet. We hope to create safe spaces for the LGBT+ community of the university, including a book club and an arts and crafts group. We plan to make the LGBT+ society here at The University Chester Students Union as fun and enjoyable as possible. Through both our ABCs of LGBT+ initiative and reaching out to other LGBT+ societies at universities across the North West, we plan to be one of the most socially active societies within the Students Union and we will give our members great opportunities to reach out and explore the LGBT+ community of Chester and beyond, hopefully culminating in a trip to Brighton in the Easter break.
The society exists to provide opportunities for those that identity as LGBT+, or support those that do, to meet and support each other. It is an excellent society to join to meet new friends from all walks of life. The LGBT+ society is one of the most diverse and active societies at the University of Chester, with strong links within the wider Chester LGBT+ community.
