What is a Student Stamp?

 

A Student Stamp is a means of recognition that the Council has inspected the property and it meets certain standards. It covers all types of student accommodation in the private rented sector including shared houses; purpose built student accommodation, and flats. A Student Stamp Certificate is only issued for a maximum of 3 years, and then another property inspection is required.

 

What is the Student Stamp Standard?

 

In order to achieve a Student Stamp, the property must be in a good condition and free from serious hazards. The landlord of the property must adhere to good management practices that are fair and reasonable, and they must be Accredited. Alternatively they could use an agent that is part of a nationally recognised Accreditation scheme.

 

Why choose a Student Stamp approved property?

 

Moving into the private rented sector for the first time can be a big step for many students. Student stamp gives assurance that the property has been inspected within the last 3 years and was found to be safe and suitable for occupation by students. Only properties with a Student Stamp will be advertised by the University Accommodation Office.

 

When the Council inspects for a Student stamp it looks at fire, electrical, gas and other safety issues. It also covers things such as decor, cleanliness, the need for a desk, chair etc, and access to a wireless internet connection.
